An olive oil producer from generation to generation, Joan Franquets began working on the family farm at a very young age.
Joan Franquets is passionate about wine, and in 2009 he decides to go back to school to become a sommelier. It was then that he bought organic vineyards to create his own estate.
The Costador estate is located in the highlands of Tarragona, close to Barcelona. Joan cultivates some of the oldest Catalan grape varieties, which have almost disappeared from the region. These include Trepat, Sumoll, Moscatel and Maccabeo.
An adept of long macerations in amphora, he produces absolutely unique wines.
He learns, he tries, but above all he dares and the result is precise, greedy, structured and pure wines.
It's like following your instincts and you end up with a magnificent result.
Our favourite of the moment, his terracotta bottles are the result of a search for purity.
